Constipation in a 2 month old baby

When a child appears in the house, parents begin to worry about those questions that they simply would not have paid attention to before. All mothers and fathers know the baby’s health above all. Good nutrition, healthy sleep, proper stools - at first, these criteria will become the main ones for determining the state of crumbs. It grows, and with it new experiences arise. One such point is an irregular stool. A child of 2 months with constipation can show their feelings with a long cry, restless sleep. Naturally, this point worries young parents.

Causes of diarrhea in children 2 months

Constipation is a difficulty in the process of bowel movement or the absence of it in a certain period of time. Only some parents go to the doctor, others do not attach importance to the problem. Perhaps because they do not know, this type of stool in a child is a pathology or a norm. If more than one and a half days have passed, and the child does not have a chair - this is one of main symptoms of constipation.

The tendency to constipation in a child of 2 months occurs mainly due to immaturity of the intestine, which will change due to age. In addition to the above, there are other functional reasons: teething, transfer from breastfeeding to natural feeding, as well as the period after an infectious disease.

Children who are breast-fed, very rarely, almost never suffer from constipation. Subject to proper balanced nutrition of the mother. Artificial feeding can cause constipation, as an individual reaction of the child to the mixture. In this case, choose another mixture. If this does not help, the doctor may recommend a more liquid dilution of the mixture, as well as the use of enemas. Children - “artificers” need to use a sufficient amount of liquid to prevent constipation to prevent constipation. In infants there is no such need.

Causes of Functional Constipation in 2 Monthly Babies

Constipation in children can be:

  • organic
  • and functional.

Organic type often associated with anatomical defects of the colon. Functional constipation may have many reasons, among which are:

insufficiently plentiful drink with natural feeding or the introduction of complementary foods,

Brief recommendations

In some situations, parents themselves determine the group of drugs and means that they will use to help the baby. Not always folk remedies, which have repeatedly proved their effectiveness, can have a beneficial effect on the health of children.

Parents should understand that without medical advice, any treatment can only harm. Many drugs may be applicable to adults, but not to a baby. Sometimes, parents themselves choose treatment, trusting advertising or the experience of their neighbors. The result does not live up to expectations. They begin to panic and acquire all kinds of suppositories in the pharmacy, use special enemas for babies and gas pipes.

It is necessary to solve problems as they become available. Identify possible causes that may cause this condition. First of all, you need to understand that the baby has constipation. Then determine the cause, and only then proceed to treatment.

Among the main features that can be characterized:

  1. Lack of stool for about 1.5-2 days or difficulties with bowel movements.
  2. Lack of norm. Under normal conditions, in the age group up to 3 months, 2-4 single stools are considered optimal.
  3. Difficulties with emptying experienced by the baby. The cause may be increased fecal density.

Over time, the frequency begins to decrease to 1-2 times. The fact is that the intestinal system of the baby is undeveloped and therefore can not fully cope with various tasks, including: digesting food and absorbing healthy vitamins and minerals.

If the baby has an absence of stool for more than a day, we can talk about the appearance of constipation. Doctors say that periodic constipation in newborns can be observed everywhere. Normal nutrition can quickly help and minimize possible harm to the child. With constipation in newborns, doctors recommend changing the diet of the baby.

Main problems

The main reasons that can cause constipation should be determined by the doctor during the initial examination. Experts do not recommend self-diagnosis, as adult drugs can be categorically contraindicated in young children.

Among other factors influencing the development of the problem, the transition from one type of feeding to another deserves special attention. It will be about specific cases of the transition of the baby from natural to artificial feeding.

If the newborn has constipation, you need to pay attention to the milk mixture. A trivial change in type or brand can lead to undesirable consequences. Improper maternal nutrition can lead to undesirable consequences in the body of the child. In this case, nutritional adjustment and further analysis of the condition may help.

There are a certain number of products that will be contraindicated for many children. They can cause stool disorders. With an insufficient amount of breast milk, we can talk about the development of starvation constipation. The food that enters the body is completely absorbed, so the child does not defecate.

When diagnosing infectious and viral diseases in a newborn, you can see the development of constipation. The process occurs due to the fact that an insufficient amount of fluid enters the body. Parents should give their child more water.

In some cases, this problem can be observed in the case of premature introduction of complementary foods. The intestine is not ready to cope with such a load and as a result a problem arises. Among other reasons, we can note the allergic factor, which occupies a significant share in the overall structure.

First steps in treatment

If proper treatment is not given, the problem begins to progress. The primary symptoms can only worsen over time. If the child is constantly crying, any parent begins to worry.

How to help babies? It is best to start with a massage. Everything is done very simply. With smooth movements of the palm, it is necessary to describe a circle on the baby’s tummy, the direction - clockwise. For additional stimulation of intestinal motility, you can make a "bicycle". The kid will be delighted with jointly held warm baths.

If constipation was detected in a small patient, parents are advised to lay it on their stomach, this activates the intestines. There are a number of products that can help in the current situation.

Bowel problems can be resolved by giving your child foods that contain fiber. Vegetable or fruit puree suitable for the age of the baby can help.

Also, the product may have some requirements:

  1. Excessive processing of raw materials.
  2. Very soft consistency.

Children's body does not tolerate dehydration. What to do if the problem persists? Soap for constipation is pushed into the rectum of a newborn baby. You can also use a cotton swab or a thermometer.

First, a cotton swab is taken, pre-lubricated with baby cream / petroleum jelly and carefully injected into the anus of the child. If you don’t have such tools at hand, you can use ready-made vent pipes, which can be purchased at almost any pharmacy.

The next way is to use glycerin suppositories, which are designed specifically for newborn babies. In most cases, they do their job. You can insert only a third of the candles and thereby simplify the emptying of the baby.

To date, there are many tools that guarantee a quick get rid of this problem. All possible side effects and age group must be taken into account. One of the common forms of release is considered a mixture of constipation, but you can not use them without consulting a doctor.

If none of the presented methods helped, you can do an enema. It can be used only in extreme cases. Before starting the procedure, prepare a special syringe and fill it with a warm solution. The amount of liquid will vary from 20 to 30 ml.

The anus is lubricated with cream / petroleum jelly and the tip of the syringe is inserted into it. Gently push in the entire solution. If the enema did not help, you need to urgently consult your doctor. There is a high probability of the development of pathological changes.

Laxatives can suppress the natural emptying reflex, and intestinal motility will decrease in the newborn. Properly provided therapy can significantly accelerate the healing process. Be healthy!

What to do with constipation in a 2-month-old baby, every mother should know. After all, babies are often worried about problems with the tummy. The work of the gastrointestinal tract in children under 3 months old has not yet been established. It can be bloating, colic or constipation.

The last problem is the most dangerous, because the consequences of irregular stools cause pain to the baby for a longer time. Knowing how to fix it, you will help your child to feel better and restore a calm atmosphere in the house.

Symptoms of ailment

In medicine, constipation is considered to be difficult or irregular, untimely or incomplete bowel movements. To understand all the intricacies of treating constipation, you need to understand how and why a person empties his intestines. Not all the amount of food eaten is absorbed by our body, some part remains in the intestines, so it should be cleaned regularly. Overcooked food turns into feces and enters the rectum, where it accumulates, and gradually the accumulation volume increases, it begins to put pressure on the walls of the rectum, which causes the urge to defecate.

A baby’s nutrition at two months is either breastfeeding or a baby formula. The infant cannot yet receive fiber, since, according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, complementary foods are introduced no earlier than 6 months. Namely, fiber helps prevent constipation, because it is not completely absorbed by the human body (examples of fiber are vegetables, fruits and cereals). Therefore, many newly minted mothers are faced with a lack of stool.

Talking about the problems associated with constipation in a two-month-old baby (especially breast-fed) should be when the lack of a daily stool bothers him.

This may occur:

  • in pronounced restless behavior
  • in crying
  • in attempts to push and grunt (while the face turns red),
  • bloating,
  • in the absence of gases
  • in dense lumpy feces.

If a nursing baby spews feces once every 3-4 days and does not show signs of a painful state and discomfort, then this is considered the norm. This is due to the fact that the digestibility of breast milk is very high. If infants rarely empty their intestines, this indicates that the food they receive is of high quality and suitable for them.

Treatment methods

Starting to treat constipation in a child, you must first find out what is the reason. It is necessary to be observant and show the baby to a pediatrician.

Most often, you can cope with constipation in a two-month-old child without resorting to medication. It is necessary to organize the life and nutrition of the baby so that he receives enough water so that the room in which he is located is ventilated and with moist air, so that he walks in the fresh air every day, so that he is not overheated, not wrapped up unnecessarily, drank water, if required (especially artificially crafted children).

Regular massages of the abdomen (stroking clockwise), exercises on the gymnastic ball, and balanced nutrition of the mother (for children on GV) help improve the intestines.

If all this does not help, but it is urgent to save the baby from pain, pediatricians are allowed to resort to the following methods:

  1. Candles with glycerin. Introduced rectally, approximately 1/3 of the suppository. Candles are stored in the refrigerator, before administration, they should be removed and held at room temperature for about 5 minutes, the anus of the baby can be lubricated with petroleum jelly. Candles act by liquefying feces, the result should be expected within an hour, but it can occur instantly.
  2. Microclyster Microlax. This tool is approved for use both for pregnant women and for children from birth. The nose of microclysters is halfway inserted into the anus of the child and squeezed out the entire contents of the tube. Feces are liquefied and released within 15 minutes along with traces of the drug. The drug can be addictive.
  3. Enema. A syringe with boiled water at 37 ° C or with saline is injected into the anus to a depth of 1.5 -2 cm and the entire contents are slowly injected. Baby feet should be supported. At the end of the procedure, it is advisable to ensure that the entire volume of injected fluid is released. The syringe should be chosen with a rubber or silicone tip, and before the introduction, lubricate it with cream or cosmetic vaseline.
  4. Laxatives A laxative option for a child may be syrups containing lactulose. For example Dufalac. The doctor may prescribe drops of Hilak forte, Bifidumbacterin forte and other means, but use is possible only with the consent of the doctor!
  5. Mechanical stimulants. It can be a gas outlet tube or a cotton swab smeared with cream or petroleum jelly. At a distance of no more than 2 cm, they are inserted into the anus of the baby and gently rotated. With this method, you should be very careful, since it is very easy to damage the thin walls of the intestines of the baby.

Enemas and laxatives wash out the beneficial microflora, can irritate the intestines and cause addiction, so the use should be minimized. Try to eliminate the cause rather than the effect.

Until recently, such methods of treating constipation as a piece of laundry soap, embedded in the anus, or an attempt to irritate the colon with the tip of a thermometer were acceptable in everyday life. These methods have nothing to do with treatment, they can only harm and be dangerous to health.

Prevention of stool problems

One of the main causes of constipation is the lack of fluid in the child's body. This leads to the fact that feces become dense, their movement through the intestines is complicated. Try to protect your baby from thirst and excessive sweating. If the child is an artificial person, it must be added with clean boiled water. Breast milk contains water in its composition, but in order to do without dosing, you must be sure that the moisture in the baby’s body is properly consumed. He should not spend it on cooling his body if he was wrapped in a room with a temperature of 26-28 ° C.

The baby should live in comfortable conditions:

  • temperature - 18 ° C,
  • humidity - 50%
  • the room is regularly ventilated,
  • daily wet cleaning
  • daily walks in the fresh air (duration varies depending on temperature).

The means of preventing constipation at this age include the correct physical exertion (laying on the stomach), daily massage and the mother’s diet (with HS).

How to eliminate the causes of irregular stools as they grow older?

When a child is a month, 2 or 3, the problem of constipation is a frequent case, since the gastrointestinal tract is not fully formed, and the mother is not yet used to correctly and quickly understand the baby and create the necessary conditions for him.

As they grow older, at 6 months, the child can already receive the necessary amount of fiber in their daily diet, this changes the regularity and texture of the stool. It is important to introduce complementary foods correctly and in a timely manner.

Approaching the age of 1 year, the baby will be able to defecate on a pot. In this situation, there may be a nuisance of psychological constipation if the pot was chosen incorrectly or became uncomfortable for the child. Try to eliminate this scenario of events.

In kindergarten and school, the child is faced with the need to visit a public toilet, which is often dirty and unpleasant. This leads to the fact that children suffer, harming their own health. Try to teach your child to go to the toilet in a certain mode, in the morning or in the evening, when he is at home.

A child under the age of 6 months, regardless of whether he eats breast milk or a dry adapted mixture, has the right to excrement of any color, consistency and frequency if this does not cause him discomfort. Constipation is never the only symptom of a dangerous disease. If it is one of the symptoms, then it will be accompanied by developmental delays, abdominal tenderness, and difficulty swallowing, etc.

Try to create comfortable conditions for the baby, and the problem of constipation will bypass you, but in case of emergency you need to keep special candles in the home medicine cabinet.

Constipation in children in the first year of life is a fairly common problem. In 90-95% of cases, stool disorders are inherently functional (i.e., the motor, absorption, secretory and excretory functions of the colon are disturbed without pronounced structural changes in the intestinal wall). More rarely, constipation is associated with any congenital and hereditary diseases, pathologies of various internal organs and systems.

If constipation occurs in a month-old baby, what should parents do? How can mom and dad help older children? In such situations, you should not prescribe treatment yourself. Contact your pediatrician immediately. The specialist will determine the exact cause of the stool disorder and prescribe the appropriate treatment.

What is constipation and what are the causes of its occurrence?

Under this term, specialists understand difficult, rare or systematically defective bowel movements. Constipation is usually divided into acute and chronic. With the first variety of stool disorders, there is a lack of defecation in the child for several days. Then the intestines work back to normal. For chronic constipation, a periodic violation of bowel movements is characteristic.

How to eliminate constipation in a month-old baby, what to do if this problem occurs in an older baby in the first year of life - issues that interest many parents. First of all, you should try to understand the reason for the violation of the stool. Constipation in young children is very often due to:

  • malnutrition
  • transfer to artificial feeding,
  • excessive protein intake
  • lack of dietary fiber in the diet,
  • insufficient fluid intake.

How to recognize constipation: bowel frequency and feces

When examining a child with a stool disorder, the pediatrician asks parents several important questions. The specialist is interested in:

  • how often bowel movements occur
  • what form does feces have.

For example, a doctor examined a baby. The information received from the parents allowed the pediatrician to confirm constipation in a month-old baby. What should mom and dad do so that in the future, without the help of a specialist, one can understand about the occurrence of this problem in crumbs?

It should be remembered that bowel movement in babies in the first months of life is an involuntary process. It mainly occurs after feeding. In newborns, the frequency of bowel movements can be up to 6 times a day. As you grow older, this value decreases. By 4-6 months (that is, at a time when children begin to eat not only their mother’s milk, but also complementary foods), the intestines empty out no more than 2 times a day.

The violation of bowel movements is also indicated by the form of feces. With constipation, it can be:

  • sausage and lumpy at the same time,
  • nut-shaped (feces are presented as separate hard and difficult-going lumps).

Features of nutrition of infants and mothers

If constipation occurs in a month-old baby, what should mom do? One of the recommendations is not to refuse natural feeding (if there are no indications for this). Breast milk contains a huge amount of beneficial substances that are characterized by prebiotic effects.

Another tip is to adjust your mother’s daily menu. The fact is that the properties of breast milk depend on what products a woman consumes. That is why it is recommended:

  • normalize drinking regimen,
  • abandon drinks and dishes that reduce the motor function of the colon (these include jelly, cocoa, strong tea, mucous soups, rice porridge),
  • Cross out foods that increase gas production (cabbage, legumes, brown bread) from the diet.

Feeding babies

If you refuse to breast-feed, constipation may occur in a 2-month-old baby. What to do, tell the pediatrician. The specialist will recommend feeding your baby with specialized adapted milk formulas. They prevent stool problems.

There are many different mixtures (e.g. Nutrilon Comfort 1, Semper Bifidus 1). They can be used on an ongoing basis as the only mixture, because the composition of these products includes all the substances and microelements necessary for the growth and development of children.

Feeding Against Defecation Disorders

About six months later, parents begin to enter the usual food on the menu of their child - a variety of mashed potatoes, cereals. Some foods can cause stool problems. If constipation occurs in a 6-month-old baby, what to do, with the help of what products you can rid the baby of this problem? Pediatricians, answering similar questions from parents, recommend including crumbs in the diet:

  • fruit purees that stimulate intestinal motility (for example, from apple, plum, prunes),
  • vegetable purees (from cauliflower, carrots),
  • barley, millet porridge.

Do not forget also that from the moment of feeding, the baby's body begins to require fluid. If the baby does not lack in it, then he will not have constipation. To prevent problems with the stool, you can give boiled water, fruit drinks made from berries, weakly concentrated decoctions of dried apricots and plums, teas with chamomile, fennel, dill water.

Cleansing Enema - Ambulance

If, for example, a doctor confirms constipation in a 3-month-old baby, what will the specialist do after this? He can prescribe a mechanical bowel movement using a cleansing enema. It is made into a pear-shaped balloon, the volume of which is determined depending on the age of the baby:

  • balloon No. 2 (50 ml) - suitable for 2–3 months old children,
  • balloon No. 3 and No. 4 (75 and 100 ml) - can be used at the age of 6 months.

Boiled water is poured into a suitable container. When calculating the volume of fluid, the age of the child is taken into account:

  • from 25 to 30 ml are administered to newborns
  • babies aged 1-3 months - from 50 to 60 ml,
  • in 3-12 months - from 100 to 150 ml.

How is mechanical bowel movement performed? For example, a doctor prescribed a cleansing enema, diagnosing constipation in a 4-month-old baby. What to do next, many parents do not know. To set a cleansing enema, the baby is placed on the left side or back, after placing an oilcloth under the body. Boiled water is collected in a rubber bottle. Its temperature should not be more than 25 degrees. The tip of the balloon is treated with petroleum jelly for easier insertion.

If the baby lies on its side, then the buttocks are simply spread to it. If he is located on his back, then they raise his legs up. Air is released from the pear, and after that its tip begins to be carefully inserted into the anus to a depth of 3-5 cm. First, it is advanced strictly forward, and then down and forward. After that, the pear is slowly squeezed, thereby releasing water into the rectum.

Dufalac is an effective drug (syrup)

If a 5-month-old baby has constipation, what to do, what medicines can be given is a frequently asked question. In the treatment of bowel movements, drug therapy can be used. A popular drug is Dufalac, which is available in syrup form and dispensed without a prescription. The tool has a mild laxative effect, does not adversely affect the body of a small child.

The components of the drug unchanged reach the colon and are split. Eventually:

  • pH goes down
  • osmotic pressure rises
  • the volume of intestinal contents increases.

All this leads to stimulation of intestinal motility, normalization of stool consistency.

Glycerin suppository against constipation

It's no secret that glycerol suppositories have a good laxative effect. They have an irritating effect on the mucous membrane of the rectum, reflexively stimulate peristalsis, and contribute to softening feces. If, for example, constipation occurs in a 7-month-old baby, what to do with glycerin suppositories, is it worth buying them for a baby? The answer to this question can give a pediatrician. This remedy is prescribed by a doctor if necessary.

Glycerin suppositories are used until normal intestinal motility is restored. They cannot be used for a long period of time. With prolonged use, the rectum is irritated, the physiological process of defecation is weakened.

Thus, the treatment of constipation is a rather difficult problem. In its solution in complex cases, an integrated approach should be used - diet therapy, drug therapy and the use of enemas. However, parents should not take any measures to eliminate constipation without first consulting a pediatrician, because their actions can harm the child.

Signs of constipation in infants

Many young parents do not quite understand how constipation manifests itself and begin independent treatment, when the child does not need it at all. Other parents, on the contrary, do not notice alarming symptoms when a newborn needs urgent treatment.
To understand when a child has constipation, you need to pay attention to the following symptoms:

• Consistency of feces
• Emptying frequency
• Behavior of the child at the time of defecation.

The main symptom of constipation is a solid and dense feces. It can be dense balls that stand out quite easily and almost every day. Also for constipation, a characteristic feces created from individual solid fragments or a dense oblong mass with cracks.

Another clear sign of constipation is too rare feces after the release of a tight cork. The child during a bowel movement is restless and tense.

See your doctor right away if you notice the following symptoms:

• lack of bowel movement from 24 to 72 hours,
• no gases are released or feces with blood appear,
• the child is restless, refuses to feed and cries,
• the temperature has risen, there are bouts of vomiting.

Constipation in the baby - the most important points

If you suspect that the baby is up to 1 year of constipation, then pay attention to the following points:

1. Frequency of constipation:

• If episodes of hard stools are rare, then you should not worry. Rare constipation is not associated with severe diseases of the digestive tract and does not require treatment. The problem can be solved with the help of massage, glycerin suppositories or a vent pipe.

• If hard stools occur frequently, then this is an alarming sign that may indicate intestinal pathology. Due to frequent constipation, the structure of the intestine changes, encopresis (fecal incontinence) occurs. And therefore, the newborn must be carefully examined.

2. The general condition of the baby. A child with rare cases of constipation feels well, develops normally. If the baby has frequent constipation, then it looks painful and lethargic, as it suffers from a serious illness. If, in addition to difficult bowel movements, you notice a rash, apathy, or have established that the baby is lagging behind in development, contact a pediatrician. Chronic constipation can be a sign of the following diseases: lactose intolerance, agangliosis, dolichocolon, diabetes mellitus. In the presence of these diseases, feces may remain mild, but defecation is difficult.

3. First bowel movement after birth. Normally, the first defecation occurs within a day after birth. If the first stool appeared after 36 or 48 hours, then this may be a sign of congenital agangliosis. If constipation occurs in a 3-month-old baby whose first bowel movement was late, show it to the doctor.

Constipation in children from 2 to 6 months

In healthy children under 2 months of age who are breast-fed, defecation occurs after almost every meal. The consistency of feces is fluid and resembles gruel, and therefore often parents assume that the child has diarrhea. But this is not so.

Over time, the frequency of bowel movements decreases and parents suggest that this is how constipation in a baby of 2 months manifests itself. But if the child is calm, sleeps and eats well, then the problem is most likely absent. Stool delay occurs due to the fact that breast milk is completely absorbed in the baby’s body and there is nothing to bring out. For this reason, the stool may be absent from 24 to 72 hours, while the feces are soft, and the child feels well.

If the baby does not have stools for 4 days, then you can stimulate bowel movements using massage, a cotton swab or a vent tube. After emptying, evaluate stool consistency. If constipation has occurred in the baby for 4 months, then treatment is necessary.
Often during bowel movements, small children become tense, groan, sharply move their legs, trying to help themselves. Many parents believe that this is how constipation manifests itself, but this is not always the case. If difficult bowel movements are rare and, in general, the baby feels well, then there is no reason to be worried.

Many mothers are interested in the question: "How to treat constipation in a baby?". Do not rush to use laxatives or an enema. Massage the abdomen around the belly button. Warm the diaper, put the baby on it on the stomach, stroke the back. Turn the baby on his back, bend and unbend the legs. Continue the session even if you notice that feces have been released. If feces are solid - use an enema, glycerin suppositories or a vent tube.

Breastfeeding Infant Constipation

Constipation in infants while breastfeeding is a rare occurrence. Difficult defecation in children who eat only breast milk can be provoked by congenital intestinal pathologies or serious diseases that are accompanied by metabolic disorders. In such cases, the child has other symptoms besides constipation.

Constipation may occur due to lactose intolerance. This is especially possible if constipation alternates with diarrhea or abundant regurgitation occurs. If such symptoms appear, visit a doctor who will examine the child and prescribe tests.

Sometimes difficult bowel movements occur due to maternal nutrition errors. In this case, exclude cow's milk, flour products, white rice, cabbage, onions, tomatoes, pears from the daily diet. It is not recommended to use legumes, mushrooms, spicy seasonings, spices, marinades, smoked products.

Constipation in children under 6 months of age with artificial or mixed feeding

Constipation in infants with mixed feeding is a very common occurrence. Systematically insufficient defecation most often occurs precisely due to the introduction of complementary foods in the child’s diet. After all, breast-fed children are less likely to suffer from stool disorders.

Constipation in a baby of 5 months may occur due to unadapted nutrition (juice, porridge, vegetable and fruit purees). When using whole cow or goat milk, there is also a risk of developing difficult bowel movements. These products do not satisfy the needs of the baby and provoke persistent constipation.

To normalize the stool, it is recommended to transfer the child to natural feeding without feeding. But if you do not have the opportunity to breastfeed, then introduce adapted artificial mixtures into the diet.

Constipation in infants with artificial feeding is also not a rare occurrence. If, as a result of defecation, a child feces solid feces, and this has been going on for several days (from 4 to 7), consult a pediatrician. A similar reaction can occur with hypersensitivity to casein and whey proteins (cow's milk proteins). In this case, the doctor should examine the baby and choose the most suitable mixture.

Iron-containing mixtures are not the cause of constipation, and therefore it makes no sense to cancel them.
Doctors recommend preparing the mixture according to the instructions on the package. Observe the dosage clearly, because too thick a mixture contributes to the development of constipation. Some pediatricians advise diluting the mixture with a little more water than indicated in the instructions to normalize the stool.

Therapeutic mixtures to eliminate constipation

It is possible to cure constipation in a 6-month-old baby who was transferred to artificial nutrition with the help of special medical mixtures. To do this, use milk mixtures that contain gum, whey protein, lactulose and starch. For example, Humana, Samper Bifidus, Nutrilon.

Cleavage of the gum occurs in the lower parts of the digestive tract. As a result, a more voluminous and soft feces are formed, normal bacterial flora is normalized.
To eliminate constipation in a baby of 7 months, it is recommended to use milk and cereal with the addition of lactulose. If difficult defecation occurs due to hypersensitivity to cow's milk proteins or lactose intolerance - transfer the newborn to hypoallergenic mixtures without lactose content.

Constipation after feeding

Constipation in infants with the introduction of complementary foods is a common occurrence. In most cases, the intestines of the child are not able to digest vegetables, fruits and cereals.

To eliminate constipation in a newborn after feeding, follow these rules:
• Cancel the feeding that you have given to your baby before 6 months of age.
• Do not start complementary foods with dairy products until six months old, as they can cause constipation in a baby for 8 months or more.
• Gradually introduce a new product into the child’s diet, while constantly monitoring the quality of bowel movements.
• Apple, plum, peach and apricot puree helps soften feces and eliminate constipation.
• Include high fiber foods such as buckwheat and oatmeal in your diet.

Difficult defecation after taking medication

Constipation in a child of 9 months may occur as a result of taking the following medications:
• drugs that eliminate smooth muscle spasm,
• calcium antagonists,
• psychotropic drugs,
• drugs that relieve muscle tension,
• antiepileptic drugs,
• iron-containing medicines,
• antacids
• medicines containing bismuth.

If you suspect that constipation in a child of 10 months has arisen after taking the medication, consult your doctor. Tell the specialist in detail how the condition of the child changed after taking the medicine.

Do not interrupt medication, even if you suspect that it is the medicine that provokes a violation of bowel movement. It is not recommended to combine laxatives with other drugs, since the former reduce the effectiveness of the latter. The interval between admission should be at least 2 hours.

Antibacterial drugs can trigger constipation in a 11-month-old baby. After all, as a result of taking antibiotics, dysbiosis often occurs, which provokes a violation of bowel movement. To restore normal bacterial flora, it is recommended to use prebiotics, which have a laxative effect.

First aid for constipation

As already mentioned, a rare constipation in a child at 1 year of age occurs often and does not require special treatment. All you need is to provide first aid to the baby:

• Enema. Take a small enema and fill it with fluid. To prepare the saline, dilute 30 g of salt in water (500 ml). The dose of the solution for children up to 6 months is 130 ml, for patients from 6 to 12 months - 180 ml. Draw liquid into an enema, lubricate the tip with a greasy hypoallergenic cream, turn the child on its side, raise the legs and carefully insert the tip into the anus. Do not perform this procedure if you are unsure of your knowledge.

• Candles based on glycerin. Rectal suppositories help soften feces and stimulate intestinal motility. Turn the baby over on its side, slightly raise the legs, carefully enter the suppository into the anus. Defecation should occur 20-50 minutes after administration.

• Massage. Massage your tummy in a spiral-shaped rubbing motion clockwise. Stroke the belly around the navel with your palm with a slight pressure. Put your baby on a heated diaper, turn it over on your stomach and stroke the back.

You can also use a vent tube to stimulate bowel movements.
Thus, constipation in children in the first year of life is a common occurrence. If the first signs of difficult bowel movements appear, go to the pediatrician to conduct a thorough examination and establish an accurate diagnosis. Do not self-medicate, as this is dangerous for the health of your child!
